Media, journalism courses @ UVM

2008 November 14

Here are two journalism and media-related courses I teach at UVM:

  • College Media Practicum: Earn credit for work with The Vermont Cynic, WRUV-FM or UVMtv
    • This course gives staff members a chance to earn credit for course assignments related to their work with three UVM student media groups: The Vermont Cynic newspaper, WRUV-FM radio and UVMtv campus television. Students design their own course of study in conjunction with the media adviser, making this course more like an internship or independent study than a standard college course. Students complete 10 weekly assignments, a small midterm project and a longer end-of-term project—all of which can be completed in conjunction with one of the three media groups.

  • News Writing Across the Media: Learn to report, write and publish in multimedia
    • This course gives you the chance to learn the standards of good journalism and do practical reporting and writing for newspaper, Web, radio and television. This is more of a textbook course, but students do tons (and tons) of practical work. The best students get published and/or produced.
